New television, internet ads counter claim that fracking doesn’t impact water resources
DENVER—A new ad campaign is launching today that puts a major oil and gas talking point in its crosshairs. The campaign, sponsored by the Center for Western Priorities, holds industrial fracking operations accountable for their impact on Colorado’s water.
“When we’re talking about the right and wrong way to produce energy here at home, we need to make certain that we are all using the best, and most accurate, information,” said Center for Western Priorities’ Trevor Kincaid. “That has not been a policy of the oil and gas industry for some time.”
Industrial fracking and associated groups claim that fracking does not impact groundwater, despite numerous incident reports and academic studies to the contrary. The Center for Western Priorities’ ad campaign aims to set the record straight.
The ad, titled “Every Day,” will appear solely on Colorado television, as well as on digital and social media platforms.
A voice over explains how often oil- and gas-related chemical spills occur in Colorado, and how often waters are contaminated as a result:
Just about every day in Colorado, there’s a chemical spill caused by drilling and fracking.
And once a week on average, a spill contaminates groundwater.
But every day the oil industry fights common sense protections and drills in our treasured outdoor spaces.
We need careful planning to protect our communities and our water.
Because we need energy development, but we can’t have a spill every day.
