STATEMENT on Political Appointee Taking Over Interior Inspector General’s Office

Oct 16, 2018

DENVER—In response to reports that the Trump administration has suddenly placed a political appointee as the top watchdog overseeing the Interior Department, the Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Media Director Aaron Weiss:

“It’s completely inappropriate to put a political appointee with no oversight experience in charge of investigating President Trump’s most scandal-ridden cabinet member remaining. This looks like a clumsy attempt to provide political cover as numerous investigations into Secretary Zinke are underway.”
