An obscure Interior Department advisory board comprised of oil, gas, and coal industry players is poised to offer policy recommendations on how the agency should oversee energy development on public lands. If you think that sounds like the fox guarding the hen house, you’re exactly right. At this week’s meeting of the Royalty Policy Committee in Albuquerque, New Mexico, industry representatives are expected to recommend exempting new drilling projects on millions of acres of public lands from environmental reviews and public input.
