DENVER—The U.S. Senate this afternoon confirmed David Bernhardt as the Deputy Secretary of the Interior on a vote of 53-43. The Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Executive Director Jennifer Rokala:
“David Bernhardt’s numerous conflicts of interest should have made this an easy ‘no’ vote for the entire Senate. The revelation that Bernhardt misled the Senate by continuing to lobby for major clients after telling Congress he was no longer doing so should have at least least led to the postponement of today’s vote.
“Regardless of policy differences, any politician who claims to care about draining the swamp should now commit to holding David Bernhardt accountable for his actions at Interior, especially when it comes to his long list of industry clients.”
