At the end of the month, funding ran out for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, one of America’s most valued and flexible sources of funding for acquiring and restoring public lands.
The LWCF is funded using royalties on offshore oil drilling — it doesn’t cost taxpayers a dime. Unless Congress acts, the LWCF will expire, killing off future projects like these in all 50 states.
As members of Congress from both parties fight to save LWCF, the Center for Western Priorities is highlighting the many ways the fund benefits all Americans:
- How LWCF ensures the future of our waters and wetlands
- How LWCF restores our lands and waters
- How LWCF invests in American cities
- How LWCF preserves and protects the Pacific Crest Trail
- Why it’s foolish to raid the LWCF to pay for routine park maintenance
