DENVER — Following a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s, R-UT, Disposal of Excess Federal Lands Act of 2013 (H.R. 2657) mandating public lands across the West be sold off to the highest bidder, the Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Trevor Kincaid that condemns members of Congress who claim to support national parks while advocating their sale.
“Communities across the country that get their lifeblood from national parks and protected lands are suffering due to congressionally imposed padlocks on gates. Some in Congress feign outrage and wax about the grandeur of our public lands, but are quick to back legislation that would sell these places to the highest bidder, perhaps permanently locking out the hunters, anglers, hikers, and families on vacation. We need to be conserving more for our kids and grandkids, not letting go of what we have, because these communities depend on it.”
