Statement: Gov. Herbert’s Land Plan Would Steal From All Americans

May 21, 2013

DENVER—The Center for Western Priorities released the following statement by Trevor Kincaid following Gov. Gary Herbert’s, R-UT, testimony before a House Natural Resources Subcommittee where he called for states to manage public lands rather than the federal government.

“Governor Gary Herbert is right that we need more collaborative land management, but his proposal to have states solely control federal public lands is nothing more than a land grab. His proposal would steal land belonging to all Americans and put their management in the hands of a few. That is not the type of thinking that built America’s conservation legacy and protected places like Arches, Yellowstone, Great Smokey Mountains, or Yosemite.”
